The three men will share a platform at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos where 2,500 political and business leaders have gathered to address key issues facing the world economy.

Also joining them will be Microsoft founder Bill Gates - who has just pledged £400 million of his personal fortune towards making vital vaccines available in the Third World - as well as the South African leader Thabo Mbeki and President Olusegun Obesanjo of Nigeria. [arrow more]


boston.com: An Internet presale deal has some local U2 fans up in arms. They claim the so-called "preferred seating" offered for the band's May FleetCenter shows was no such thing.

The sale, which began Tuesday, gave members of the band's subscription service, U2.com, the chance to buy tickets through Ticketmaster before they go on sale to the public Saturday. But fans said the seats available to the May 24 and 26 concerts were no better than those that will be offered this weekend. belfasttelegraph.co.uk: Northern Ireland's legions of U2 fans were today given the news they had been waiting for - the date of the rock giants' 2005 Irish gig.

The supergroup from Dublin today announced it will play their home-town gig in Croke Park on June 24 as part of the Vertigo 2005 world tour.

No Ulster date is listed in the band's touring itinerary though thousands of Ulster fans are expected to join the rush to buy tickets for the Dublin gig when they go on sale on February 4. [arrow more]

examiner.ie: U2 frontman Bono defied security in Cannes, France last night to get to the NRJ Music Awards ceremony on time.

The Vertigo star was late for the ceremony at the Riviera city's Palais des Festival due to the bad traffic and horrified his bodyguards by jumping out of the car and crossing the crowds to approach the red carpet. [arrow more]
