news.bbc.co.uk: Rock star Bono could follow in the footsteps of former US president Bill Clinton in speaking at the annual Hay Festival.

The U2 singer has been invited to the 2005 festival in the mid Wales town and organisers expect to find out next month whether he can appear.

Around 80,000 people attend the 10-day event, which attracts speakers from the worlds of music, sport, broadcasting, film and politics, as well as literature.

If he appears at Hay-on-Wye, Bono is expected to lecture on the issues of Aids, African debt and Third World aid. [arrow more]
