u2.com: We invited some U2.Competition winners, who saw the band live last weekend, to send us their reviews.
Generally, the response was quite warm!
Elizabeth Hohman, Bournemouth:
‘It was unbelievable and unforgettable - it was surreal to be less than a foot away from the four men who I admire so greatly. The new songs sounded great - it seems as though the band have taken the best aspects from 'The Joshua Tree' and 'Achtung Baby'. I loved what I heard - a mixture of beauty, intensity and passion.’ [

contactmusic.com: U2 star THE EDGE feared his group would split before finishing work on their new album HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, because BONO could never find the time to join his bandmates in the studio.
The frontman was always jetting off to meet with politicians and world leaders as he urged governments to take world debts more seriously, and his guitarist worried that he might never return to rock. [

contactmusic.com: Irish rocker BONO has vowed to make FRANZ FERDINAND's lives a misery for trying to steal U2's place as one of the world's biggest bands.
Bono is convinced the Scottish TAKE ME OUT foursome will become more popular than his band, but he refuses to let them take U2's place too easily.
He says, "Franz Ferdinand make me a bit nervous. They give me a bit of a twitch. The only people who have the confidence to praise people who came before them, are guys who are absolutely sure that they 're going to pass you by, and they should be confident. [

While Think Secret has been unable to confirm this with one-hundred percent certainty, sources say that Apple is planning to release the U2-edition iPod around the week of November 21, when U2's new album will hit stores. For a small premium over the regular iPod, said to be around $30, the U2-edition iPod will feature a distinctive enclosure and will come pre-loaded with all the band's major album releases.

oregonlive.com: Bono is the first to admit celebrity is an absurd currency, but he's used his to particular good effect. His engagement with global poverty began in the '80s with Live Aid, the music industry's response to the famine in Ethiopia. Live Aid and Band Aid together raised $200 million, the most for any such effort. And Bono spent a lot of time in Africa before he got to know any world leaders. [

thefinalword.co.uk: If you told me, when I first start listening to U2 in the early 80s, that some twenty years later, I'd be watching them play the BBC carpark in London, I'd have told you not to be so silly.
Of course, I wouldn't have believed you if you told me that. I would've probably said "My dad's bigger then your Dad". Though with U2, my band is bigger than your band. U2 are the biggest band in the world today. (Sure, maybe The Beatles, and Pink Floyd, and The Stones were bigger, but what have they done for you lately?).

E. M. oder Herbert Grönemeyer. Die Photogalerie 94 zeigt eine Übersichtsschau des Fotografen. [

But while they're waiting, what do these devoted U2 followers do in the meantime?
Well, many of them attended the first-ever U2 Los Angeles Fan Celebration at the Ontario Convention Center last Sunday, reveling in the sights and sounds of all things U2 (except for the actual band itself).
"We are brought together by the band's spirit, fellowship, and the love of good music," said Allegra Calkins, who came all the way from Texas with her friend Lizzie Ernst to enjoy the festivities. [

waterford-news.ie: THE tattered remains of a shirt ripped off U2’s Bono as the band played to a frenzied audience at Waterford Regional College (WIT) in 1980, was sent to Dublin yesterday to be autographed by the international superstar himself.
The two sleeves are missing from the shirt, so are a couple of buttons and while its turquoise and maroon colours are a bit faded it is the most prized possession of Clairin Jackman from Knockboy village, on the outskirts of the city. [

Eno, who twiddled the knobs on upcoming disc HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, had issued strict instructions that no telephone calls be allowed for a week while he worked with the Irish band.
But Eno swiftly backtracked on his own rule when he found out who the caller was.
U2 manager PAUL McGUINESS says, "When an assistant interrupted one of the sessions Brian exploded, but did eventually calm down when he was told the Pope was on hold."
