bbc.co.uk: U2 frontman Bono has said he is "ashamed" by the lack of European support for sanctions against Burma.
Speaking at a US congressional hearing, he said Europe should "pay attention" to Burma, where democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi is under house arrest.
"I think we have a particular evil to deal with that needs a different and stronger response," he said of the country's military regime.
The U2 single Walk On By was dedicated to Aung San Suu Kyi. [

They first met several years ago while working on issues in Washington, but now they're taking on one of their biggest challenges yet, and they've teamed up to do it. [

u2log.com: “You know how many people are here today?” Bono asked, looking out over the hundreds of people gathered on a sunny Sunday afternoon (May 16) on Philadelphia’s Independence Mall. “Well, I counted it. I’m a rock star who can count. Three million people are here because that’s what these people represent in their various organizations all over America and all over the map.”

salon.com: Bono likes to call himself just a noisy rock star. But your average noisy rock star doesn't get nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and tell presidents and members of Congress what the nation's priorities should be. So much more than a token celebrity spokesman, Bono's gone from being one of the world's greatest rock stars to one of the world's leading voices in the fight against the biggest humanitarian catastrophe of our time -- AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa. u2.com: No notice, no preparation and no crew, but director Dominic DeJoseph still came up with a compelling documentary about last winter's Heart of America tour.
The new film received its premiere at the Tribeca Film Fest in New York last weekend and on DATA's website DeJoseph describes how he got involved when 'one rock star, two movie stars, one heroic Ugandan activist, three brilliant doctors, and 12 talented Ghanaian kids traveled in three buses through seven states in seven days, in order to put a human face on the crisis of AIDS in Africa'.
