u2.com: Edge introduced Yoko Ono last night, to open 'In the time of shaking' at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

Edge, who has supported Amnesty with U2 for 20 years, recalled attending the opening of the first Amnesty Irish offices in Shaw Street in Dublin in 1984.

'I'm proud of the way Ireland and Irish people have supported Amnesty ever since then.' he said, 'I'm also particularly pleased that this Irish initiative is spear-heading what will hopefully become a series of similar art exhibitions around the world that will raise money for Amnesty.'

billboard.com: U2 lead singer Bono will make a special address Saturday (May 8) at the Tribeca Film Festival's annual free concert in New York. American Express Presents Live at the Battery will boast performances by Van Morrison, Macy Gray, Steve Winwood and the Black Eyed Peas.

interference.com: For months rumors have been circulating that a U2 song would appear in a summer superhero movie. Two titles bandied about were "Spider-Man 2," to be released on June 30th, and "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," recently pushed back to a September 17 release date. According to an article on RollingStone.com, it seems that U2 is not appearing on the "Spider-Man 2" soundtrack, unless somehow a new Dashboard Confessional track is a more interesting draw than one by U2.

It should have been a secret. U2 were coming to Portugal and no one really knew. Even Universal Portugal wasn't aware of their visit and the media had no clue. During wednesday a small rumour started when a group of Spanish fans visiting Dublin heard that U2 would visit France, Spain and Portugal.

u2log.com: U2’s recent stay in Portugal is frontpage news in local newspapers. Pictures of their arrival at Lisbon airport and a photoshoot in a swimming pool in Sintra’s Praia Grande featured in various publications.

Bono was quoted saying: “I enjoyed my stay in Portugal a lot. If I could, I would stay here longer (…) I am doing all I can to return soon with a show on the next tour.”

u2tour.de: Bereits vor gut einem Jahr (Newsmeldung) berichteten wir über eine für September 2004 anstehende U2-Buch-Veröffentlichung, U2 Show (Cover) von Diana Scrimgeour.

Die Autorin hat uns nun weitere Details zum Buch verraten: Das Buch deckt die komplette Tourgeschichte von 1979 bis heute ab und wurde komplett von der Band authorisiert, was auch den Vorteil hatte, dass sie praktisch uneingeschränkten Zugriff auf das Fotoarchiv der Band in Dublin hatte.

Das Werk wird voraussichtlich 200 Fotoseiten und 100 Seiten Text umfassen, der aus Interviews mit Menschen besteht, die in U2s Karriere direkt involviert waren und somit nahe Begleiter der Band waren.

Die insgesamt rund 50 Interviews werden durch Fotos illustriert, die sowohl vor als auch hinter der Bühne entstanden. Die Auswahl fand unter Mithilfe von Showdesigner Willie Williams statt, der zu vielen Kapiteln auch einleitende Worte beitrug.

Alles in allem erwartet uns also schon vor der Veröffentlichung der offiziellen U2-Biographie, die für 2005 geplant ist, ein tolles U2-Buch mit wahrscheinlich vielen ungesehenen Bildern. Kostenpunkt sind rund 25 britische Pfund.

u2tour.de: Bono ist seit heute mittag in Berlin. Am Nachmittag unterstützt er die deutsche Hilfsinitiative Gemeinsam für Afrika und wirbt gemeinsam mit Herbert Grönemeyer auf einer Pressekonferenz für die Ziele der Organisation.

Zeitgleich findet ein Meeting zwischen Künstlern und Organisationen statt, auf dem beraten werden soll, wie der Druck auf die Regierung in Deutschland und in anderen europäischen Ländern hinsichtlich des Kampfes gegen AIDS und Armut in Afrika erhöht werden kann.

Am Abend ist Bono dann einer der Gastredner beim Awards Business for Excellence Dinner. Das Essen findet in den Räumlichkeiten von Daimler Chrysler am Potsdamer Platz statt und wird von der Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS ausgerichtet.

Während der Veranstaltung werden Unternehmen geehrt, die sich bei der Bekämpfung von AIDS besonders hervorgetan haben. Der Hauptredner des Abends ist der deutsche Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder. Weitere Gastredner sind der Präsident der Weltbank James Wolfensohn und der Global AIDS Co-ordinator der US-Regierung Randall Tobias.

Bono spricht in seiner Rolle als Gründer von D.A.T.A. (Debt AIDS Trade Africa).

Um 17.15 ging in Berlin die Pressekonferenz zu Ende, bei der auch Bono zu Gast war. Er eröffnete seine kurze Ansprache mit den Worten: "Hi, my name is Bono. I'm a rock star!" Und wiedereinmal unterstrich er, wie wichtig es ist, sich dem Kampf gegen AIDS zu stellen und dass hierfür Gelder benötigt werden. Jede kleinste Spende könne Afrika helfen. Ab 17:30 Uhr findet am Potsdamer Platz eine Demonstration statt, zu der u.a. Bono und Herbert Grönemeyer erwartet werden.

Im Vorbeilaufen konnten wir kurz mit Bono sprechen und er äußerte sich auch zum neuen Album: Die Single soll im September erscheinen, das Album ist für Oktober geplant. Anscheinend sind U2 (mal wieder) fast fertig mit den Aufnahmen.

Die Band hält sich wohl zur Zeit in Dublin auf, wobei Adam, Edge und Larry über Bono's Berlin-Trip nicht gerade begeistert gewesen sind ...
